Got my first smartphone, a Moto e5, about a week ago. While driving and walking about, I keep the phone in the shirt pocket and would like to be able to use it without taking it out. I can't because all apps required touching the screen to open/close/pause. On this phone, you can't even end a call by pressing the power button. You have to touch an icon on the screen to end a call.

You won't find one piece of software that will do this for every app. You need to find individual apps for each thing you want to do that work the way you want... if there are such things. I think PowerAMP works with the hard buttons for playing local music. Not sure about anything else.

The call thing is easy, the other stuff depends on the individual apps.

Thanks. I can't rep you both again too soon. I am slowly getting the phone to work my way. I am relying on Google assistant to do some stuff without looking at the phone. A big problem I have with Google assistant is that it does not say, "Hi. How can I help?" Instead it types on the screen, "Hi. How can I help?". When I am driving, I can't look at the screen. Does anyone know how the set up Google assistant so it says that greeting out loud?

The only time it doesn't talk is that first greeting "Hi. How can I help?" Without hearing this and without looking at the screen, I don't know if it is ready to receive questions.

If you are launching the assistant through a voice command you don't have to wait between saying "Ok Google" and your request. Just say "Ok Google give me directions to the gas station".
