Does Facebook messenger send geo locations or IP addresses? Any way that messaging someone who is NOT a friend can through the messenger alone determine your IP address or location?

Didn't think so. I don't think theres any way for a FB user to obtain another FB user's IP or location unless disclosed, right?

If you can place an image in a message that is externally linked it would be possible if the person sending the message had access to server logs where the image was hosted. A 1px*1px transparent .gif wouldn't even be viewable. Same thing would apply on a site like this. I send you a DM with the image from mysite.com/image.gif embedded using the bbcode. I only need to look in access logs to find the IP that accessed image.gif.

The IP itself is typically not very personal information unless it was dedicated IP for business or whatever.

I do not know how the service works. If you were attaching a file where the entire file is sent with the message then it provides no information. It's when the file is being requested from external web server the IP can be determined.

You browser just made request to my server for this image and the IP was logged in the access logs. There is many people that are going to request this image so I would not be able to determine which IP is yours making the request, I might be able to take wild guess if you replied to this message shortly after viewing it. If i sent it in a PM and the image was unique or I used some unique parameters then I could easily pinpoint your IP.

This image could be transparent .gif that was 1px*1px and you would never even know it was there.
