I'm upgrading from my miserably small 8GB Moto G (3rd gen). My two top choices are the new Moto G7+ and the old Pixel 2. Can anyone speak to the quality of either phone's camera and associated software?
The Pixel is a 2017 flagship phone with an outstanding camera. Review websites cite it as being better than the G7, but the G7+ has a camera upgrade with OIS. Does that make it better?
I like Motorola, especially for the twist-motion-activated camera and the chop-chop-motion activated flashlight. My MotoG lasted forever, and I'm only upgrading because my tiny 8GB of onboard storage means I can run exactly 3 (tiny) apps, and I can't even take 30s of video any more. Because of the way the phone is designed, I can't store photos on the memory card and have them automatically upload to google.
I'm probably going to go with the Pixel 2. I like that it's waterproof (I go to the beach a lot, and need it at least sand/dust proof) and I like that it's small.
Anybody have a Moto G7+ can convince me it's worth the extra $50 over an older pixel 2?

Samsung is number 2.

Pixel 3A or XL. The cheaper Pixel is better than both the Pixel 2/3 because it still retained the headphone jack and pictures are damn good. Brand new starting at $329.

I got an open-box "new" Pixel 2 for $170. Came with protective shell and screen shield.
I'm happy with my decision. The camera is amazing! It actually sees BETTER in low-light than my eyeballs!
First Impressions:
Positives:
+ Amazing Camera
+ All the cool photo software/AI stuff: motion-capture pictures, slow-mo, time-lapse, night vision
+ Almost exactly the same size as my MotoG (3rd Gen), so not too bulky.
+ Crazy screen resolution.
+ Great value for the fast processor.
+ Immediately upgraded itself from Android 9.0 to 10.0 - Expecting to be able to put in AI call screening and other google-hardware-specific updates as they roll out.
+ Good riddance to the headphone jack. Never used it on any of my phones.
+ Google assistant is fun and responsive.
Negatives:
- Battery seems weak. Light useage + 30 minutes of active navigation puts me at 44% after 2/3rds of the day.
- Don't like having to buy a few more USB to USB-C cords.
- I miss the Motorola gestures (twist for camera, chop for flashlight). Those were the best thing ever.
