Yes.

It's been explained to me that when there's an Android mixed into a group text, weird things happen, and some functionalities are not possible.

No, it is not your Android causing them to get texts late. It's just easy to blame you being odd man out.

Here's an idea. Ask NOT to be included in the group texts. There is only one person that starts the group text, that is the person to contact. I know this seems obvious but I don't see it mentioned and you can't have it both ways unfortunately.

There are also apps to block unwanted texts. May not be possible with stock app? I know on my phone I can turn off notifications from certain numbers which I have done for one person. He's a friend but can be a PITA sometimes. When I go back to my messaging app, I will still see his texts and as usual I didn't miss anything important. If that was the case, he would call.

My wife (iPhone) has showed me (Droid) many group texts where I'm not getting all the messages or don't get them til sometimes an hour later. Frequently. It only happens in group texts; getting a text directly from/to an iPhone user is not a problem.

That is no indication that this is normal behavior. I am the only Android in a group of 7 people, 5 iPhones, 2 Droids.
My wife is in this group with her iPhone. Messages hit our phones within seconds of each other every single time without fail and have for over a year now.

Who knows, maybe it's something else the usual group text perpetrators do.
I don't know what messaging app they use and I know that sometimes they add new people to the group and have overlapping groups and even my wife says her group texts can come in kinda funny sometimes. I've been told that using iMessage with mixed phones can lead to this problem, when an Imessage user send a text and it gets translated into a regular MMS.

I don't have the issue all the time. I have a super-clean phone too, minimal apps and bloatware and it runs as fast and long as the day I first got it.

I don't want to stop doing bike rides with this person, it is just aggravating that he is so hung up on saving a couple of clicks by sending a group text as opposed to an individual message to one of us and forwarded to the other.

We have discussed it to death and I think I am finally getting through to him.

That's just lame you expect him to send a message to you then resend the same message to the other person. It bothers you that much that you ... discuss it to death.
Can't he send a group text, then when you bail, he can go to the 1 on 1 he surely has with the other guy?

Only if you are ABLE to bail and unsubscribe from a group text.
