We have NO actual Apple repair facility. Just the 'authorized' repair place. Yep....lesson learned on this one. What a bummer.

It’s part of the accessibility features, I have this activated on both my 2020 iPhone SE 256gb and my Apple year 2018 (purchased 2019) 3rd gen iPad Pro.

I activated this because screenshot is one of the features/options, and I use that on both my iPad and my iPhone.

If it's a 2020 iPhone with a button than it has to be the iPhone SE 2, since there are no more buttons on any other iPhones released in 2020.

The SE 2 is a $299 iPhone, not worth repairing imo. Because the buttons on iPhones to replace will cost you about $100. Just spend the $175 and get used iPhone SE that works perfectly fine.

I never get people who spends money to repair smartphones when there are so many cheaper alternatives.

Depends on the phone you have. 8? SE? Yeah, buy a new one. Crack the screen on a 12 Pro or Max? Yeah I'll get it fixed. There are cheaper alternatives, such as buying a used, lower end phone, but I'd prefer to have my flagship phone working, especially given the cost.

That said - there's a reason I have AppleCare on my devices. Yeah, I use cases...and I've still cracked the screen on an iPad before. $50 and a stop at the Apple store and I have a new device. I'd rather not break my work phone and be on the hook for $1000+ if I drop it and catch that one spot where the case isn't quite as good as it should be.

$399 (not $299) for the smallest capacity, up to $549 for the 256GB

None of those are worth repairing. I have a friend who recently cracked XS Max, Apple wanted $500 for front and back. The front alone is $350. So I bought the screens and back myself and helped her repair it. The total cost to repair yourself is $200 for good quality parts. The XS Max is not bad to repair, doable. The back is ridiculously time consuming to repair.

I still don't understand why people won't use a case.

It “fell” right on the home button. If the OP dropped it, it won’t be covered under warranty.

I suppose you’re correct, but two things:

1. I can’t understand how it can fall “on” the home button. The button doesn’t stick up. I think it is recessed. If it fell on the phone’s “face” it still wouldn’t hit the button. The seems to be what the “repair guy” told them, but it doesn’t sound right to me.

2. The OP went to the wrong place, IMO, to get it fixed properly. Regardless of warranty coverage, it needs to be fixed by someone qualified to do it. I don’t get the impression that they went to the right place.

I could be wrong. I have been wrong before. It happens on occasion.

Do you guys understand this? An Apple store isn't even within a days driving distance for a lot of people. Verizon referred the OP to the nearest authorized service center, the mall kiosk.

Apple currently has 271 US stores in operation: Notably, nine states (and Washington D.C.) only have one Apple store, and six states have no Apple stores at all (Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.) California, on the other hand, has 53 Apple stores in its state alone.
