I haven't noticed this question answered anywhere before.
Now that people are using their cell phones wherever they travel I was wondering what happened when you dialed 911 when on the road as signs suggest you should, or when you are in a different area code/state from where you reside and away from the one under which the cell phone is registered? I have noticed that emergency phone numbers aren't posted in the phone book much anymore.
I have the location option enabled on my cell phone so would a 911 call connect me with the nearest 911 operator where I happen to be or the one nearest my home which could be useless at times? I'd say the phone is about three years old and is a Sprint Sanyo Katana if that makes a difference.
When you dial 911 you will be connected to the closest 911 center that the cell tower is next too. I have had to, on more than one occasion, call 911 while traveling I-10 from Jax, FL to Baton Rouge. Have never had a problem and have always gotten very prompt help.
Oh, thank you. I didn't want to have to call 911 to find out the answer.
