My wife has hard an iPhone for three months, and I've been quite impressed with how well it's worked for her. I'm ready to jump onboard too (it's upgrade time for my phone on our AT&T family plan and I have phone envy), but I've been reading about the new version supposedly due out from Apple this summer.

Any thoughts or information on whether the new model is worth waiting for? As I recall, the first-generation iPhone buyers benefitted from some of the 3G improvements, via software or firmware upgrades.

I'd wait another month at least. As of now, there's some speculation that the new phone will be available in a 32 gigabyte version, that it will have an improved camera with video capability, and some other features that remain to be seen. It's possible that the existing iphone models will sell for less. When the 3G came out, Apple allowed people who had recently purchased an iPhone to return it for a restocking fee and get a new one at the subsidized price, so I was able to return mine and get a new one plus cash back. If you buy right now you'll probably be too early to qualify for that program.

Apple traditionally introduces the new model during the month of June. There is a new OS 3.0 that's in beta and all signs point to a new release.
If you have to have a phone now, pickup the 3G. If you can wait, the rumored new features would be well worth the wait.

Patience is a virtue.....
