Doesnt matter where you are, theres somebody, somewhere doing off color things. Somewhere in Naples, FL, somebody is doing satanic chants and rituals. Somewhere in Tucson, AZ, someone is paying someone to twist their nipples.
Somewhere in Fairfax, VA, someone is having an orgy. Somewhere in Lexington, KY, theres a man getting intimate with a loaf of bread. And somewhere in Portland, theres somebody rubbing peanut butter all over themself for no reason.
You dont know what people do im their own privacy. Your own neighbors could be doing god knows what. But as long as its not illegal, like murder or dealing drugs, why do you care? As weird as Voodoo is, its not illegal. Voodoo in Charleston is no different than things that go on in other cities. Don't act like youre high and mighty, and dont act like Charleston is infected with some weird evil disease. If its not illegal then just mind ya business.
There are traces of it on some of the barrier islands and in rural areas, mostly between here and Georgia. It does stem from the Gullah culture that was brought over from Africa. You will probably not notice it (unless you're curious and seek it out) beyond the presence of some houses painted a particular color blue, called haint blue, that is supposed to ward off evil spirits.
Yes. Mixed with Gullah culture and Christianity, it is usually referred to as "hoo doo".
If you Google "hoo doo practitioners", you will get quite a few hits.

Well said. I agree. I would add that somewhere in SC, someone is having sex with a horse.
Sure it's not a Donkey?
It's all the same when you're wearing beer goggles.
