Other than North Charleston and Charleston the downtown/historic district peninsula, how far does the city of Charleston actually extend? We are visiting this week and have explored the "old city" Charleston but where are the more suburban areas, shopping center, etc? We are thinking of moving here some day and wanted to see as much as we could other than the traditional Charleston area.
If you leave downtown Charleston and get on Hwy 17 South you will go into the area we call "West Ashley" (Once you go over the Ashley river) Its my favorite side of town!
The Citadel Mall is down by the intersection of Hwy 17 and I-526.
You will also pick up "Sam Rittenberg Blvd". There is a lot of shops on that road also.
Darcy that would be Uncle Joe anaxing outside of the county to bring in more revenue for the city, just like N. Charleston anexing the Watson Hill track up on Hwy 61 in Dorchester County.....
North Charleston is not part of the city of Charleston. North Charleston is a separate municipality...just like James Island, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville shouldn't be considered a part of Charleston proper.
Approx half of James Island is in Charleston proper. Parts of Johns Island are in Charleston proper, and parts of Cainhoy are in Charleston proper. King Joe has been busy annexing the past 30 + years.
