For us it was the overwhelming beauty, but seriously I didn't know about the legal aspects and lack of general concern the State government has for it's residents. Living with rats is just inacceptable and the fact that the Dept of Health has no concern for children living in that house..well.. it's disturbing

THIS 110%.

Also relatively good cost of living, my DH's job, and the weather (9 months out of the year). Ever since I moved OUT of S.C. in 1992, I said I wouldn't move back, but Charleston seduced me. And it was that or Charlotte. (I would have moved back to CA if I could, but....)

Anyway, I have decided that I will be contacting my congressman and senators about this.

We are rooting for you. Good luck and so sad your first experience here in the Charleston area has been a nightmare. Please let us know how it all pans out. Take care

Warm climate; you are near the ocean, and the hype- if not the reality- is that conditions are better than Florida.

Most people who like it are either long-time residents or rich retirees able to buy themselves a far better reality then the masses can afford.

Guess what?

My husband has been feeling really bad the last 2 days...woozy and short of breath. He is the one who has been going up to the attic and dealing with the rat poop and the dead rats, etc. I wonder if it's related....maybe if he starts feeling better when we're out that would be a clue.

Going to a hotel AGAIN tonight. Movers come tomorrow. I wish I could make the owners pay for all this, but of course they don't see it our way.

For what it is worth.
