We ran into some people who had a "treasure map" that served as a self tour around down town Charleston. It sounds like a great way to get to know the area - they said they got it at some place with the word Pirate in the name. Does anywond know the name of the palce with the parchment looking treasure maps?

You could easily spend an entire day at the Hwy 61 plantations (Middleton, Magnolia, Drayton). The gardens are spectacular. Of course, downtown is great, with plenty of historic homes, sites, etc. Nice to just wander down from the Market to the Battery with a stop at Waterfront Park to sit in the swinging benches, looking out onto the harbor. Highly suggest a carriage tour for out of town visitors; good fun and quite informative about the history of Charleston.

IOP has a nice walking beach and it won't be too cold that time of year. I second 82 Queen as a great restaurant to visit - those biscuits are to die for!! You can also take a tour or fishing trip out of IOP Marina. Seeing Charleston from the water is like seeing a whole different side of our fair city. Enjoy your trip and try to make it to Acme Cantina on IOP for breakfast - Crab Eggs Benedict - yum!

OMG, so many must see's in Charleston. I am sure this will be just our first of many trips to come. I'm such a huge fan of a city with rich history and from what I'm reading I should have been to Charleston long ago.

I'm a planner, so I'm getting my itenerary together. My husband is quite the opposite, so I'm looking forward to exploring on my own during the day while he is doing work stuff and then we'll do the romantic, fly by the seat of our pants stuff when he's done with the work.

As the PP stated, this is a trip for recharging and I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!!
