Once upon a time The Colony House downtown Charleston was the only place that made/served it... Mike Pappus was the chef IIRC... Mike Altine owned it I believe, he still owns and runs several out standing places today... The Variety Store being one...

want to know where much of the really good Charleston food came from, Mike Altine's the one to ask

Yeah, but a black chef invented the recipe for She Crab Soup, and he was in the empoly of a place called Everettes when he did so.

Of that I'm sure.


Colony House had good food, though.

Colony House was very good.

Hank's Seafood RestaurantA great review on 10best.com. "If you love She-Crab soup, then Hank's is the place for you!! We have eaten She-Crab soup at every restaurant we could find in the Charleston area, and Hank's is by far the very best!

Yeah, went there when I was maybe (10); that was a few millenia back.

There was also a 'Piggy Park' drive-in near it.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: Wild Rice.

Another staple fare up in this part of the 40.
