We don't pay school taxes because of our age..RE taxes are really LOW and they have the homestead act which after you are here for a complete year (Jan-Jan) you get a reduction.
As far as the leaky roof....haven't heard of any problems in any house with the roof. The house are built well and most are happy.
=============================================

Thank you for the info Stella. I will be Sixty this June......so how old do we have to be to not to pay school taxes? Boy, I wish we could say that about PA. They kill us here.
The model home that had the leaky roof was just in the one bedroom corner. I did report it to the lady at the info desk. Those things happen, not something you want to see, but they happen.
We thought the whole place was just beautiful. We have 2 years to make our decision on where to retire. It will be down south and we do love the Charleston area. So much to do.
Question .........when you have someone wanting to sell their home there, do they have to use a realtor or how do they go about it? Are the homes less expensive
than the new ones? Soooooo many questions!
Thank you for your posts. I hope you realize how much you help us all with our decisions in life.
Ed

Ed..... I think you have to be 65 not to pay school taxes. Some of us feel we all should pay school taxes no matter how old you are (which really wouldn't be high anyway) since the schools here are not the best. As far as selling your house..we have some for sale now ( due to death, sickness, etc.) You get an outside real estate agent; however, they can't put any signs up in Del Webb e.g. "For Sale" It's hard to say if they are cheaper since some bought their houses at the beginning with everything included so the price was higher. Now you can buy a house with just what you want with little or no extras and, of course, that would be cheaper. All in all, it's a great place to live.

Default Have they started building the Publix store yet?

This is for Stella.

Happy Memorial Day! This is a 'different' Ed from PA. We meet months ago in the Sales Center and you invited me to see your home at that time. Have they begun to build the Publix at the entrance of Cane Bay yet? What about the Harris Teeter at 176 and 17-A?

I'll be there in July and look forward to being there permanently!

That would be a negative! A publix store manager said it was delayed YET another year. 2012 now...I'm thinking 2015 myself

About a month ago our neighborhood & the one beside ours had a meeting with our mayor (Goose Creek). Someone asked him about the retail construction in the 176-17A area and he said it's all but stopped right now because of the economy.

Just had a meeting with the developers (Miller Valentine Group) for the medical section near Publix. They said that Publix is supposed to be completed March 2011. It was slowed down because the ground was wet. they kept saying Publix's deadline is March 2010. I hope they are right.

Our meeting is next Tuesday, curious Stella what else did they say about the medical center?

They said they are meeting with physicians to put offices here, but the doctor's are waiting for Publix's and a few more people. There has been a lot of interest in coming here. The first ones to come will get the patients first. The key is to get a primary doctor first and the specialists will follow. They are trying to convince Roper St Francis to get an office here to get a head start on Trident. They also talked about the interchange #198 on 26 which they think will be completed in about 6 years coming right into Cane Bay. I think once the economy turns things will move a little faster, especially after Publix is here.
