Having been around aviation for over 15 years and experienced with the787 program both in SC and elsewhere, I can assure you the disorganization is not only in SC. The program is basically being treated as a Start up company and every one is trying to make themselves look good. I also agree that the union in WA has been trying to discredit SC since the start. Hopefuily with the new contract they will ease up and things will get better. And of course there is probably someone monitoring the site. However, if a spouse gets fired over something a NONEMPLOYEE says, not only is it illegal but it is a very poor showing for the company. That particular post sounded almost like a threat.

My husband is in his first week at the plant, just finished up his training. He's saying it's a mess (at least the area he's working under) and of course with the mandatory 10-hour days and some mandatory Saturdays, he's not sure if the SC employees at the plant will be given any time off for Christmas. He's tired of asking around but this is something I PERSONALLY need to know because we have plans to go out of town, that have been in place for a good while. Not to point fingers at a company that was kind (and wise enough) to extend a job to my husband, but the disorganization is really pathetic. Literally no one knows what is going on with anything. My husband was pulled out of his last night of training and told that most of the certs he completed were unecessary to him and he shouldn't have had to do them (so he was de-certified for them) and the one cert he does need (sealant) and already passed was mistakenly de-certified (operator error- someone working the training system obviously) and now he's de-certified for that too! The worst part is he has to take it all over again! Can't you just re-certify? This makes no sense.

Of course I'm grateful that he has the job, as is he. I'm just hoping they get their act straightned out soon. I understand they are WAY behind and this is a new plant, yada yada yada. But someone is making the decisions and they are not being passed down to everyone as they should be. Plain and simple.

So if any of you all know of anything regarding the break, please let me know : ) I really appreciate it!!
He needs to go into Total Access, find the manager he works for and ask them point blank if he is required to work or not. All certs are not required, I have numerous certs, some I never use, some I use daily, some I use every 3-6 months.

If he doesn't have a cert, tell them you don't have the cert, no one will force you to do the job. If they do, tell Quality. See what happens to the manager pressuring you. In fact I have seen different. We had a few questions about something we were working on, we go clarification, got a training course prepared, we gave the course a "test run" and have had others go through the class. Guess what? Now its taken care 10 times quicker, full support of management and training.

As far as I know, FAD, and I assume mid and aft body will be open(as well as several other Boeing facilities around the world). That does not mean it is mandatory. Its been a voluntary basis, like the weekends have been for me. Even more technical, even then I believe they are closed 12/24, 12/25, and 12/31, 1/1.

As I said get with the manager, different organizations, different managers, different rules.

Some people are ecstatic to work the holidays, especially for the pay.

There are growing pains, of course there will be growing pains. Honestly I think things are going well. Remember 2 years ago, the place was a swamp. I have been in FAD as long as its been open, and around months before that.

If referring to my post, it was not meant as threat in any way shape or form. I have nothing, nada, zippo to do with Boeing in any way shape or form.

That said, I would say it is a warning about Internet postings in general but it is an accepted fact companys/politicians/unions (like maybe Seattle based ones), etc. do have people scanning the Internet looking for information of interest to them.

I can only imagine Boeing SC management is doing the same thing. I would go as far as to bet on the fact they are reading these posts.

I would hardly call my post "pissing and moaning." Especially when I clearly stated how grateful my husband and I are for Boeing hiring him. It's called freedom of speech. It's not as though I was slandering the company. I know they have a lot to deal with- it's just that their disorganization is in need of dealing with too. But I'll ignore your troll-like post anyhow. That being said, thank you to those that posted useful info back! He took care of the cert issue and we have now found out that he is on voluntary holiday time which is what I was hoping for. It'd be nice to make that holiday pay, but we have family obligations, to say the least lol. Who knows if this opportunity will be around next year? To those who are taking your voluntary time off - have a nice holiday. And to those sticking it out for holiday pay- may your wallets be all the more fatter : )

I know that the third party companies working to supply Boeing are not taking a break for the Holidays, and still continue with mandatory overtime. Generally speaking, when Boeing is off, they are too. If your husband didn't make arrangements at the time of hire for this vacation you should not be counting on getting it.

I'm pretty confused over the statement that Everett is working to make the SC plant fail. They regularly fly out managers from their site to CHS to try to help the place get organized. It sounds like there is a lot of gossip flying around the site, and people are sharing ideas/opinions without actually knowing facts.

It may be illegal for Boeing to take a spouse's remarks and hold them against the employee, but it's naive to believe that this kind of thing doesn't happen. I have personally seen it happen time and again, in the military and more recently in several very large civilian companies.

Thr Everitt folks, especially the Union Morons, are causing us problems here in more ways than one. The sooner they get us shut down the sooner their God given right to have ALL Boeing birds built in Washington happens. Yes I know the Union accepted a new labor contract and yes the liberal-run NLRB dropped its case against Boeing For building the plant here, but there are still bad feelings and resentment towards us down here from them up there. Legal or not ilthe harassment is happening!

I believe the reference was to the union not managment in WA. The key words in your statement is "try to". And the people sharing their opinions are former and current employees as far as I can tell. Hop on over to the Boeing forum on Indeed.com for even more interesting reading.

As far as comparing military and privately owned companies, it's like comparing apples to oranges. God knows in 19 years of marriage we have both said things that our respective management have taken umbrage with. Our answer has always been " He/she is a big boy/girl. If you have a problem with what was said, I'll dial her/his number and you can speak to her/him". While I am sure there is somebody following the postings here and other places, I would think that Boeing has more important things to take care of.

Lol, it is a large company of course there are rumors flying....

I heard from a guy from 88-20 that they heard, from Washington that we dropped a wing in 88-30. LOL....

I had a guy from 88-19 say he heard that "last week they walked 25 employees out"

I have a buddy that works pretty much the same job as me in Washington., and he said he heard, we were having crazy amounts of problems.

I also have worked with people from Washington who have been on the program since the first airplane and say things are moving faster and better then anyone expected.

It's a big company there are rumors.... As for the disorganization, the place is starting up. They have been open 5 months? things are not that bad, and even then they are improving every day. Not going to talk about it but the people in the building have seen how far things are moving along. since family day.

I will say there was a bit of a "push" recently for long hours and results.... But it is not uncommon in most companies 4th quarter of fiscal year, especially one that just dumped about $1 billion dollars into a project. LOL.
