Beth, You are WAY braver than I am! I wouldn't be able to get out of my car and walk around back there. You're right....I would actually be more worried about crackheads than a ghost.
I don't know if I'll make it this weekend, but I will go soon. My brother lived in Summerville for years before moving to Holly Hill and he said he's heard of this "ghost light", but never checked it out....maybe I can talk him into going with me.

If not, I'll come with ya... I want to go again. I would never go on my own. My son took a golf club - not sure if he was planning to swing at the light if it came too close, but it looked pretty funny.

He was the first to walk closer on his own, but then ran back to us insisting someone said "stop" in a low voice.?? I want to go back during the day to see if I can get around the trench and go further toward where the light was.
When we got there, we waited in the car for about 10 minutes before it appeared; however, while we waited, a police car pulled up to see what we were doing... I felt kinda silly with the explanation, especially since the first policeman had no clue what I was talking about. When the other walked up, he knew about it. They said 'crackheads' come back there, so they patrol it... I think knowing that goes on was scarier than the potential 'ghost'! The light would disappear and we'd wait for it to show again, hoping it would come close, but never did. The last 30 minutes was with no light... we waited a while past midnight (one of the links mentioned it showing up more at that time), but it didn't for us. I tried to get pictures, but I don't think the light showed up.

Great story! Had never heard of voice before. From what I've heard any ghost activity ceases after a commotion (police showing up) so that may explain why it was a no show afterwords. Yeah, if you go in the day you'll see that you can go around on the left of the trench behind the second mound but it's tricky at night.
Sorry to hear the camera didn't work out for you. Next time I'm out I want to bring binoculars so I can see if it looks like a lantern to me. Being by myself the last couple times I haven't had the guts to hang around when it gets close enough to see well.
Maybe we should all organize a City-data ghosthunting trip! Maybe someone has some good equipment.

Hey, golf clubs can come in handy for many things....I'll let you know when I'm up for a good scare. As I suggested a few posts back and DecafDave has also suggested, it would be fun to have a C-D ghost-hunting party out there! I'll dig up my son's old GhostBuster PKG meter and accessories....

Me neither, but I'll definitely go again! Here's a picture of the 'road' you look down... as you see from the terrain, if you go too far down, see the 'ghost' and need to run back, it's a bit rocky! It's lit up in the picture from our flashlight/camera flash. It's much scarier with total darkness and you're not sure where you're walking.... & of course that one, yellow lantern shining at the end!!!!!
