LOL, I anticipated that question and edited my comment... no, "THE Light" doesn't illuminate anything!
Me neither, but I'll definitely go again! Here's a picture of the 'road' you look down... as you see from the terrain, if you go too far down, see the 'ghost' and need to run back, it's a bit rocky! It's lit up in the picture from our flashlight/camera flash. It's much scarier with total darkness and you're not sure where you're walking.... & of course that one, yellow lantern shining at the end!!!!!
Ok, that last line just gave me goosebumps. Seriously, you could see the lantern shining? Maybe some homeless guy lives out there and when he hears people coming, is obliged to perpetuate the ghost tale???? (just wondering aloud)

I had that same thought... (kinda like that Brady Bunch episode where the Brady boys shine something up in the sky to look like a UFO and use the whistle to make the creepy noise)... but for someone to keep it going for so many years? Or maybe the responsibility has been handed down over the years. If that's the case, my daughter must have entertained the heck out of him as she walked closer and said, "don't be scared, we won't hurt you".

From the looks of things, it's best to go during the cold months. It looks like a good area for snakes in the warmer months. Oh and mosquitoes. lol

Would have to be a prank pulled since the 1960s at least lol. Not to mention when I saw it moving towards me close to the ground-although I didn't get a great look at it-I would have known if there was someone with it. And considering people do have legitimate business out there during the day, how could he (or his nest) not be spotted? Maybe some sort of hoax done using technology but not a homeless guy haha.

Okay, snakes trump ghosts or crackheads... if I had read this before going, that would have been what held me back.

Technology out in the woods for the last 40 years? in Summerville? ROTFL!!! Who knows what this "thing" is, but if I were hearing voices out there I don't think I would tempt fate to find out. Interesting, I found another story eerily similar to this one, with the same tale of a train accident and a lantern in the Wilmington, NC area, maybe they are related and are looking for one another: The legend of Maco Light | WWAY NewsChannel 3 | Wilmington NC News
