It doesn't matter what a place was considered 20 years ago (Chas. County or Chas. City). The fact is that West Ashley is within the city limits of Charleston TODAY. We "are" living in the present, correct?
It's the same as any city. You may give the name of a specific community or borough instead of referring to the same area with the given city name. Charleston is no different. I call it West Ashley also, but in reality it is Charleston. That was my point. Thanks for making it an issue. LOL

ever been to NYC? where exactly are people going when they say they are going into the "city"?
Manhattan... although NYC consist of Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island
WA is in the city limits but it is NOT the city... no offense Unknown but you're going to confuse people with your directions if you attempt to stick to your story
Today people still consider "The City" Charleston Proper, as in downtown
only someone who is Unknown to the area would say different... lol ... just had too
I did state that it's in the city limits in my first post, but that's not how you explain to new people how to get around here... which is why I commented in the first place, his/her directions and the time it would take to get West Ashley is completely different than the directions and time it would take to get into the city
