Today, another big announcement for the Lowcountry. P.F. Chang's has announced that they are opening at Towne Center, in the old Chili's location.

It will open in late summer or early fall, as the old Chili's building will be demolished and replaced by a new one with two iconic horses.

Here is the link from the P&C, another boost for Mt. P:

Why is a chain restaurant a "big announcement" in a city known for its local culinary flavor?

Because there's people that travel several hours just to go there. It's not that big of a deal, but it sure helps the economy in Mt. P out.

I think it's worth mentioning. New jobs, good food, re-investment in the area. Sure, it would be great if a small family-owned restaurant rebuilt in an abandoned location - but they didn't. And I would say the P.F. Chang's is higher quality (certainly a newer brand) than Chili's.

With out great local food, and yes even great oriental food, this is just another gimic place and yet another reason for me not to go to town center.....

I did like Guy Harvey's though, but mostly for the shirts and atmosphere, food was just ok.

I can't imagine driving hours to eat at a chain restaurant when there are so many wonderful, quality, locally-owned restaurants close by. That's just me, though.

The city of MTP was responsible for one of the better restaurants closing (Benito's) but they bring in a chain like PF? I'll stick with DT Charleston for unique meals.

And like SCB said, no way i'd drive that distance for a chain...I did make that trip often for the uniqueness of good authentic Italian...

I don't know but the rent is high and they were next to a South of the Border. And near a Los Arcos. Chili's has been closed for over a year.
I am looking forward to PF Changs, Cheesecake factory and Spaghetti Wharehouse all coming to Mount Pleasant.
