I have the opportunity to take a sales territory -covering the state of SC. My wife & I are age 50. We have no children. We love summers in MA but hate winters...We enjoy golf, boating and beach and like the social scene in Boston - restaurants, pubs, concerts & sporting events. The Charleston area is highly recommended. I am looking for idea's on where to live.

If he's going to cover the entire state of SC, you will want to be more in the middle, around columbia. IF he does not want to spend 1/2 his life in the car.

A lot will depend on your price range and the proximity to things....

Most people will recommend MtP as a one size fits all, I recommend looking around for what fits you...

Moving from Mass? Don't do it! You will miss all the snow and cold weather. Not to mention all the high taxes.

Wife and I retired to Charleston from Boston (Andover) in 2002. We had been vacationing in this area for 25 years. My wife is a SC Native from Columbia.

Charleston will remind you some of Boston more then any other city in the state. Columbia is not a nice place. Greenville can be nice but it gets cold up there and no ocean.

This part of the low country is loaded with northeners from up your way and the midwest. It is the most liberal part of the state. Charleston county was the only SC county to vote Obama. Inland this is a very conservative, bible thumping, a bit red-neckish, state.

Fastest growing area for higher income folks is the Mount Pleasant area (referred to as the East Cooper area). Fast growing, less expensive it the Summerville, Goose Creek area.
