We have been loyal USAA customers for 15 years, but they wanted way too much to cover our new house. They told us very honestly that they just weren't competitive in flood zones. We just purchased home insurance through Capitol Insurance, and their rate was better than the others we looked at. It makes me nervous going with a company we've never heard of, but they were recommended to us by our Realtor.

I use Liberty Mutual for car and homeowner's insurance and have been happy with them so far. I had my car insurance with Geico for 8 years until last year when I switched to Liberty Mutual. The price was half what Geico was charging me.

Random thing... on car insurance, I have liberty mutual, I pay half of what I was paying with Progressive in FL. I pay like $650, per year, for a 2007, and a 2000 car. Yes a year. I was paying little more then that with Progressive. I believe they also do homeowners, I know they do renters which reminds me I need to quit being lazy and get renters insurance again.

I do get a slight company discount, but honestly, it can't be THAT big....
