Can anyone recommend a good Vietnamese restaurant in the area? I haven't had Vietnamese in quite a while, so I was just thinking about it. I'm sure there must be a good one around. Thanks.

Pho Bac is not a real Vietnamese restaurant and its name has changed or closed(don't go). Quyen's Pho is Vietnamese but a little pricy for the amount of Pho (but since it is the only two in town; the other one is in the Chinese market on 526 and Rivers), well I am picky.
There is a massive Asian/Latin/ect. food market right off I-526 & Rivers. Inside there is a Vietmanese restaurant, probably ran by the people that own the grocery store. Never been there but have wanted to.
There's a killer KOREAN restaurant facing Calhoun Square on the other side from the Embassy Suites which we enjoyed two years ago, I can't believe there isn't a good Viet place with all your good restaurants!
upon another members suggestion me and my gf went to pho #1 yesterday (the one inside the asian market on rivers @ 526), it was amazing and i cant stop thinking about the fish sauce!
prices were beyond fair and the portions were large.
The ambiance leaves much to be desired unless you like that sort of hole in the wall mom and pop atmosphere, which we do. It is not a fancy place, just good food at honest prices.
Talking to a few of the 'regulars' next to us it is apparently just the husband/wife owners and no other staff, they greeted us warmly and took pleasure in making us lunch with a smile, not something you see too often around here.
highly recommended, we will be back very soon.

that has always been a bone of contention with myself and a lot of the 'foodies' around here, not a lot of diversity. We have tons of really great southern inspired and italian places but try to find real Thai, real Chinese, Ukrainian, Russian..anything else and you will be severely disappointed. I guess it kind of reflects on the lack of cultural diversity in Chas.
