How does 'shine taste? Whiskey to me is a kick in the teeth, Tequila soothes the beast. Which is it closer to?
Straight 'shine is tough to go down I think! I remember telling my dad, is this what paint thinner tastes like? LOL!!! The fruit kind is a tad smoother......

Some of the black dudes I worked with in the old days would bring 'shine up when the came back from Arkansas. They would always say you have to be real careful, if you go too fast it'll lock your throat up. Not really a ringing endorsement...LOL

Try it!
A number of legal "moonshine distilleries" have been showing up over the past few years. I guess they are sort of like micro breweries, only for moonshine. I think their brew is typically 80-100 proof, so it's kind of like a watered down moonshine. It doesn't truly compare to "real" moonshine, which frequently, could be as pure as 190 proof. Quite a difference.
The quality of real moonshine, of course, could vary a lot, as could the taste. Mostly, it was just about producing cheap alcohol, so often, the shiners would use less and less grain, and more and more sugar, in an effort to save money. It's the same concept that the management at big corporations, uses today.....cheaper materials and less quality, for bigger profits.

I always describe it as tasting like rubbing alcohol smells.

It's an interesting choice then, there are so many ways to get where you want to go.....why choose what tastes like rubbing alcohol??
