ask not what charleston can do for you, but, what can you do for charleston. charleston/summerville hold a special place in my heart. i left in late 1986. i have never lived in a nicer place. i want to go back not because it is like boston, but because i hope it is still like charleston. i would like to bring some positive +. But i want my low country the same southern paradise it should be. i want it to be what it is. not boston, not ohio, not nyc just charleston. you need to be come charleston. not charleston to become you.

Your problem with Charleston is....
it just ISN'T where you came from...
Sorry about your bike. Did you have it locked? Only in China can you leave
a bicycle unattended without having it stolen. Of course, there no one owns a bicycle because they are ALL FREE to anyone who needs it at the moment.
Sorry about the cigButts and public smoking, but maybe they deserve sympathy for striving so hard to die early.
Sorry about the trash, but its evidence of civilization and will give some archeologist a job a thousand years from now. Call the litter control phone number in the phone book. Maybe they can help. Lots of people just go pick it up when they notice it. Great exercise! Wonderful example too!
Sorry about the traffic and the noise and the smell of pluff mud along the coast, but there are a lot of really astonishing beautiful things and places and PEOPLE who can take your mind off the fact that you are not still where you came from.
Good luck! Enjoy the visit. Where ever you are, its only temporary... while you wait to discover the next best rock to hop to in the stream of life.

Wow! I don't think anyone could have put it better. You hit the nail on the head. There are beautiful things and places everywhere if you choose to see them. Take some time to think about how much time you spent thinking negative thoughts and positive thoughts. Now which thoughts take up the majority of your energy? Negativity will only leave you feeling emotionally and physically drained. Strive to find the positive. Just remember your in a beautiful State and City next to the ocean with tons of history and cultural enjoy it.

Thank you EagleFeather. I appreciate your positive energy. If we focus on the negative, that's what we'll get.

Charleston is not for everyone. It is VERY beautiful and has a lot of great things to offer, but it won't satisy everyone. No city will. Don't feel bad about not loving Charleston. Everyone belongs where they are happiest. It may not be Charleston!

I sympathize!!!! In a span of about 4 months my bike and all 5 of my housemates' bikes were stolen, my car was vandalized, one of my roommates was robbed at gunpoint, and I witnessed a robbery and violent assault. I also worked late nights downtown, and a couple coworkers told me they had been mugged. Crime in downtown Chastown is a HUGE problem. My advice: move to James Island, cheaper, nicer, and definitely safer.
