Question Where are all the artists!!! -a moving question

I'm very possibly moving to the Charleston area in a few months and am looking for jobs in my field (media art, animation and illustration). I'm having trouble finding stuff and am getting worried. (I actually lived in Goose Creek for about a year once, but wasn't looking for work then.) What do artists do in SC??? I found some graphic design jobs and 1 film company in Charleston but not much else. Does everyone work freelance? Are there any animation studios or video game companies? If anyone can help explain where the nerdy artists are, please help me out

Thanks,
Cassie

Hey Cassie,

Unfortunately, there is not much opportunity for artists looking for employment here in Charleston. You could try some ad agencies or newspapers if you are looking for something in the graphic field.

Until Disney comes down in the next few years there is not much in Charleston for artists/illustrators.

Good luck and don't give up!

I was wondering the same thing.

I agree that there isn't much, if anything, in your field in Charleston. Atlanta or Orlando would probably be better for your expertise.

Disney s supposed to be opening some type of mini-production/satellite office building in Carolina Park in Mt Pleasant.

That's interesting A friend who grew up near there has recently told me that there's a big fine art scene there but not much in the way of multimedia; oh well, if I end up moving there I'd just get a side job and work on a film at home or something , maybe freelance online too. The disney thing would be cool though. Thanks for that info!

Give it up -- head west to Vancouver or go to Montreal. Montreal will give you that old city feel and the high tech cultural arts center you need.

Sorry -- reality is that Charleston is a wonderful city but lacking in some fields. That's why it is still a relatively small city. There are so many great cities that do offer art careers in your field though.
