I have been checking into this subdivision. Does anyone have any first hand information on this area...good or bad?? Thanks!!

Scott's Mill is a nice little subdivision. It's smaller, as far subdivisions go, and lacks the feel of older established neighborhoods. I also don't remember there being an amenities center, swimming pool, or play park in the neighborhood, but I don't know how much that matters to you.
There are certainly a number of other great developments in Summerville worth a look too. |

Thanks DJ....that must be why I cannot find any good information on it. I do like the older landscaping, but obviously I can't have that in a newer neighborhood. The ammenities are only somewhat important to my family. My son is an ameture Boxer, so it might be nice to be near the School of Hard Knocks. My daughter would love a park nearby since we are leaving her swinset behind....maybe there is a plan to build one there in the future since it is a new development. Both the kids love to swim, but a pool need not be right in the subdivision if there is a nice one elsewhere in the area that we can join. I just thought it was worth looking into Scott's Mill because the size of their new homes are amazing for the price, and I like what I hear about Flowertown Elementary school as well as the secondary schools.
I would still be very interested in hearing from anyone that actually lives there or knows more about it first hand. Thanks!!! |

My brother and his wife moved out of Scott's Mill after 2 years there. They lived in the first phase, which is 2 or 3 streets from the entrance. What they didn't like were all the cars parked on the streets and there were constantly small (unsupervised) children running or riding their bikes out from between the cars. They saw many near misses where kids almost got run over. This is especially on the first street in the subdivision....there were usually 1 or 2 parked cars on the street in front of each house on both sides of the road, leaving very little room for cars to drive through. Also, the houses were too close together for my brother's taste, which he and his wife didn't think they would mind at first, until they could hear the couple next door arguing loudly constantly. He sold his house and moved to the country on five acres.
The newer phase seems to have larger houses and perhaps more spread out. The houses are pretty and very affordable, compared to the rest of this area. I just think that their neighborhood ad hoc committee should do something about all those parked cars in the streets before there is a tragedy. |

Thanks SC...I agree completely. Your reply is exactly what a realator will not tell you. I appreciate it. Since I first posted, we have decided to look outside subdivisions for our new home. May I ask what area your brother lives in????....All that land sounds very appealing...being we are from PA in the Pocono Mountains.

They moved out to Ridgeville, which is about 15 minutes from their previous home in Summerville (Scott's Mill). They kept their kids in Summerville schools (my sister-in-law is a teacher) but bought a large home out in the country, with a 1 mile long driveway! Some people wouldn't like being out this far, but they love it! Housing prices are much lower there too, so they got a bigger house and 4 1/2 times more land for about the same price as their Summerville home. There are many small towns around Summerville - you get more for your money, but you may have to drive further to get anywhere. I live on one acre on Johns Island which is closer to Charleston....I'll take country living over city or suburban anyday!

Hi, I actually live in Scotts Mill in Summerville, SC. I moved here about a year and a half ago from Columbia, SC. My wife and I love the neighborhood. All of our neighbors are very friendly and seem to come together and help other neighbors in time of need. The houses in this neighborhood are great for the price and most have a modern open floorplan. There are also sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the neighborhood.

I have several friends that live there and they tell me there are several lawsuits against some of the builders there because the new houses are already falling apart and they can't get the builders to fix them...
personally I don't care for that clear cut acres of land for a neighborhood and plant houses within a few feet of each other architecture... just my personal opinion though.... |
