I am considering relocating to the Charleston area from Atlanta and would love some input. I have read a lot about the areas near Charleston and heard a lot of good things about the Old Village area. I know it is very expensive but there are a few properties out there that would be affordable for my family. I was just wondering if there are some "rough" areas of Old Village as there are in many neighborhoods here in Atlanta that I should avoid. There is specifically some short sales and foreclosures that look decent. One is on King St. near the middle school. Is anyone familar with that area? thanks

Old Villiage normally means Mt Pleasant.....

Downtown Charleston does have some rough areas, the upper end of King St. is one of them....

There is a King Street in Old Village too, OTC.

And yes, Old Village is in a pretty good area overall. Old Village itself doesn't have too many worries, but I'd caution safety and security no matter where you live. There hasn't been a neighborhood built yet that is immune to crime. The short sale in that area that's priced very low is pretty much isolated, directly across from the water treatment facility, with only one or two older/in need of repair homes in the immediate area. So I can understand your concern.

You'll need to come visit and see the area for yourself to make sure it's a good fit for you and yours.

Thanks for the feedback. I was concerned about the water treatment facility across the street at first but then I realized that it was not a waste water facility so there should not be any issues with that. It looks like a cool area so I will have to plan a visit soon.
