Smile More Summerville Questions

I have searched the site for answers to these questions, and i have not found them, so i hope i am not asking what has already been asked.

In looking at the pictures that have been posted of summerville, i am pleased to see how cute and quaint downtown looks. However, the few pictures i have seen doesn't give much perspective on the size. Is it only one street? If anyone has more pictures (the ones out there are wonderful, don't get me wrong), it would help me picture the area more. Also a rough number of restaurants and shops that it has would help too!

Also i was wondering if it was very buggy? I read somewhere that summerville has less bugs than other places in south carolina, is that true?

Finally how long does it take to get to the ocean: a town with a boardwalk and the beach itself?

If you are talking about just the commercial areas downtown, then it is basically two blocks over the railroad tracks in any given direction. However, the downtown historic home area is quite a bit larger. There are also restaurants and shops that are spread out that might not be in the central area of downtown but a few streets over, but overall are still a part of the downtown area. The selection and quality of restaurants is quite good. I cannot say that the selection of shopping downtown mirrors the restaurant selections however. There are some that come and go and others that have been there for years and years. Still they are nice to stroll and window shop at from time to time, but most are not something you will find yourself regularly shopping at, they are basically specialty stores and small boutiques. Some of the shops that have closed up are being replaced by offices, especially with the new shopping center just down Main Street, most everyone does their shopping there. There is a farmers market on Saturday mornings also I should mention.

Buggy? I've been in buggier places, but stay outside long enough and yes you will eventually get bugged sooner or later. There's just no getting around that in the south unless you walk around wearing a net.

The beach from Summerville is about a 45 minute drive. There are no beaches with boardwalks. The closest thing is the little touristy shopping area on IOP.
