I am in my 5th year of Pharmacy School in the northeast. I am an adult student (2nd career) and I would love to find a home/community within 20 miles of downtown Charleston. Ideally, I would like to be within a 15-minute drive to a beach, also. I have been to Charleston a few times in the past ten years and I have fallen for it, not only for what it offers, but also for the ways it differs from the northeast.
I enjoy the difference of attitude, climate, and the general feel that this area provides. On a map, I have noticed Mount Pleasant and James Island as possible communities that meet my distance requirements.
Does anyone have any advice/reservation on these or other areas?
I live in Mount Pleasant so I can tell you wonderful things about this area. Are you planning to rent or buy? Most likely you will find more newer rentals options in Mount Pleasant. James Island has less expensive rentals but the homes are much older. I am guessing your single and do not have children..if that is true either area would be a good fit. If you have family, I'd lean to Mt Pleasant.
Try to come for a visit, I would check both areas out because they are so different and see what fits best for you.
Wanted to add that you may even like living downtown!
