Default Summerville (again)

We'll be looking around some developments in Summerville this fall and we are looking for a community where the homes aren't spaced too close together. Can anyone recommend nice quiet developments to look at? Anything on the outskirts of town that might be a little more rural?

Just an off the cuff question, what has everyone's experience been with the gators? Any encounters? Any pointers? We will be staying in Seabrook Island and I'll be honest with you, we didn't want to walk around any time after dark. There were a few old big gators in one of the lakes!

There are quite a few communities in Summerville where homes are spaced farther apart and many are sitting on .75 acres of land or more.

Coosaw Creek
Sweetbriar
The Summitt
Walnut Farms
Boyle Plantation
Newington
Huntington Farms
Knightsville
The area down Ashley River Rd. (i.e. Mateeba Estates, Middleton Place, etc.)

Granted, not ALL the homes in these neighborhoods might be spaced out perfectly, but there are quite a few in them that are approaching an acre of land apiece or more. That should give you a little more distance from your kitchen window to the neighbors living room window.

Others would be:
Pine Forest
Ashborough & Ashborough East
Gadsden Manor
Downtown (Historic)Summerville
Jedburg-not a community but on the outskirts and people own lots more land!
Sweetbriar
You will find a lot of the older developments in Summerville that are more well established have more land and space around the houses. Most of the newer developments are smaller lots with the exception of the higher priced ones. (300+) Make sure you go down Old Orangeburg Road, Dorchester Road and Central Avenue to see a lot!

Oh, whoops. Forgot about the gators.

Honestly, walking around at night near gator ponds isn't the best idea. Flashlights will show you gator eyes from a good distance away, and though I do know a few people silly enough to "get closer for a picture", I wouldn't recommend it. Most gators are just lying around soaking up the sun, and won't approach or even pay attention to someone out walking around and the majority of "big" gators are confined to marshland, creeks, ponds, etc. You won't find them too often in neighborhoods or the like, except perhaps the younger ones who've travelled through the storm drains.

Do not feed the gators though, and report anyone you see who does.
