Well I finally got an on-site interview in downtown Charleston which I'm feeling pretty good about so the husband and I will be checking out apartments when we are there. After reading so much on here I am still not sure which area would best suit us so I thought I'd ask everyone what I'm looking for and see what you say.

-Both mid 20's
-No kids

Looking for...
-Somewhere with plenty of sidewalks/safe to walk dogs.
-A sports bar or two nearby to make friends our age
-At least two decent grocery stores close by (to clarify on this, I have lived in a few different area's and if there is only one decent grocery store to go to, I don't like it. I like to have options haha)
-Prefferably a little rural. Don't mind driving a half hour if it means less traffic where we live.

I guess that's really mainly it. We both have motorcycles and will be looking forward to cruising around all the areas once we live there so I just want to be sure we pick the best place. Thanks in advance

I think you will like West Ashley. Its just a "little" south of downtown on Hwy 17
Check out this area.

I just love google maps! From going up and down the road a little the area looks perfect. Love all the tree's. This is great to hear also because a majority of the apartment complexes we wrote down are located here.

West Ashley or James Island would be a good place to start the search.

Based on your background I immediately thought West Ashley or James Island as well.

Try John's Island, SC, you might like that. You want a little rural...
