If you're too stupid to not move when the police tell you not to move or refuse to stop when the emergency lights are on then you deserve whatever you get.

Yep. But the snotty liberal transplants of the Lowcountry will demand this fine sheriff who has dedicated his life to protecting them be thrown out or prosecuted. And if that same sheriff had ignored that driving, and the driver had killed someone's family member, and it came out later that the sheriff saw that car and chose not to chase it....they'd be demanding he resign for not doing his job.
Being a cop in America is becoming a no-win situation.

Well, in your examples you deserve to be subdued and arrested. "Whatever you get" is not how I want to live in "my" America. There are indeed limitations to what law enforcement should and can do.
The video shows this guy covering his head as the officer is punching him while being dragged out of the truck. I can pretty much live with that. Get him out of the truck fast and furious. But once out and on the ground he is continually punched? There are four officers there handling the situation pretty well, but the K-9 officer still unleashes hell on him? Really? You think that's ok? Then some of you feel the guy shouldn't be pissed?
Hey this guy is a bad apple. I'm not his biggest fan by any means. But I'm the first to say when I don't like the way something like this looks. It was excessive. There was no need for the dog. He wasn't going anywhere and they had him in position to cuff.
Then for anyone to slap a cuffed perp simply because you didn't like his answer shows that you have gotten too big for your britches...or too big for your badge.

SB,
You do realize that you are doing nothing to harm the area of Charleston right?

I won't go so far as to say I don't agree with what you are saying ... but stupid is as stupid does ... and if the perp had just pulled over to begin with, NONE of this would even be up for discussion .. he got what he had coming to him.

Cape_fisherman..I completely agree with your above comments. It was right and commendable that the cop admit to his slapping the guy. I can image it is very difficult for an officer not to have your emotions takeover, but the police must work within the boundaries of the law. They are NOT the judge and jury who will ultimately punish this guy for not stopping or adhering to the officers commands. The force was excessive and that is not acceptable. There are specific charges when one doesn't stop when signaled by a police officer or resisting arrest. It IS NOT for the cops to carry out the punishment.

Keep in mind that I am not supporting the perpetrator in this car chase one iota. He's a criminal that needs to be punished.
My whole point is that the police have to live inside the law. This whole "you don't know what they go through" is complete BS when you use that statement as an excuse to overstep the bounds of the law.
I wonder if I walked up to Sheriff Al Cannon today and hauled off & slapped him square across his face...I wonder what would happen to me? Anyone venture a guess there? The sheriff shouldn't have done what he did. He knows it. He committed assault from the information we have at this point. And that is unfortunate.
