There's very low crime in Mt Pleasant but no place is perfect and a little common sense goes a long way.
That is an important thing to make note of. We had a rash of car break-ins last Spring here in Charleston National. It turned out the thieves just went from car to car, and the ones that were unlocked were the only ones stolen from. Also a garage was pillaged because they left the garage door opened all night.
We become very complacent when we "feel" safe.
I admit that I have had to teach myself to lock my house doors when I go out, since I haven't always been great about that.

FYI for any bad guys reading this.....If you find my doors unlocked please come right in. I have a pair of dogs, each about 140 pounds of muscle and teeth and drool, that want to show you around my house.

In other parts of the South we just shoot them, end of story.

A police officer once said, "You would kill a man for stealing your stuff?", the marine answered, "Is my stuff worth dying over?".

Sorry but family safety comes first and when you trespass with intent to steal, you've decided to risk your life. This is why community is also important. Something I think we've lost in America. Neighbors use to keep an eye out for each other. Nowadays it's like we despise our neighbors, especially in suburbia. I'd hate to see what it's like in a crisis. One of the things you learn in survival training is that your chances are far greater when you're with other like-minded people.

Not sure if community exist anywhere anymore. You know, that middle-class place where everybody is courteous, friendly and knows your name.

Well, in my scenario I was leaving the doors unlocked when I was away from home. I suppose I could try to teach my dogs to hold a shotgun.....

We got totally off track on your thread, by the way. We tend to wander significantly in our conversations. Once you settle on a city we can direct you to neighborhoods with kids in the age group you are looking for. You won't find a big college crowd in MP, but we do have our share of high school kids. Some days it seems like most of them are actually in my house, so you may want to avoid my block.
I know there are people on here that live on John's Island that can be helpful as well. If you are considering sending your kids to public school keep that in mind as well. You can go from a city with fabulous schools right next door to a city with schools you may want to avoid completely.

Hey Fish! I will send you a PM about Johns Island. I've lived here for 18 years and am very familiar with all the areas and the ins and outs of life on J.I.
