There is no problem. "Shocked and appalled" were the wrong choice of words but the original poster clearly asked about communities without an HOA.
I think your point "It seems to me any time the subject of HOA's come up they are painted as a great freedom stealing evil, and the people who choose to live within HOA guidelines are just sharing why they made their choices." is sort of what I was hinting at. If someone starts a thread looking for a non-HOA community, they don't need to hear the spin on why HOA communities are great.

Hi everyone! I'm moving to South Carolina soon and have my heart set on the Mount Pleasant area. Found several homes I loved in Dunes West - only to find out they have some of the most stringent community guidelines I've ever seen. I can't even ride my 49cc Vespa Scooter within their gates. That is a dealbreaker!!
Are there any homes in Mount Pleasant/Daniel Island in the 600k-1m price range that are NOT in a community - so do you don't have to ask permission to put up a fence or take down a tree or ... ride your own scooter?
Thanks for your help!
Just sent you an PM but I would recommend that you check out Darrell Creek and/or the Commonweath subdivisions. Their lot sizes are a little larger & the HOA rules seem to be a little more lenient. Also there are informational youtube videos that are out on MP the Darrell Creek subdivision. If you have any questions about Darrell Creek, you can PM me & I'll do the best at answering them. Good Luck!
