After taking my grandson to the Aquarium, we headed to Mt. Pleasant for On the Border for some lunch. Imagine our surprise to see a note on the door, that today is the last day they will be open. And even more surprising (although maybe not to some on this board), we were told the landlord wants them out....they want an upscale steak house in its place. It's apparently not upscale enough for Mt. Pleasant.....

Except for the restaurants that are operated by "Sal", we now have no reason to go to Mt. Pleasant for lunch/dinner. Such a shame......

Now that's surprising. On The Border was one of my favorite spots. They have Neil Jordan's at Oakland, what do they need another upscale steak place in Mt. P for? Horrible decision if you ask me.

Los Arcos is better. Last time I went to On The Border I barely finished my meal. Found out today the Blockbuster won't be around much longer either.

Pablanos on Rivers Ave ... TRUST me on this one

On topic : You all act surprised .. this is Mt. Pleasant we are talking about. They are too good for a little Mexican restaurant (we don't want THOSE people) .. no big box stores (we don't want THOSE people either) .. and SURE as heck don't want a Blockbuster (THOSE people might rent inappropriate material).

((Disclaimer for the above statement : 'they' refers to any A-typical Mt. Pleasant type that feels they are too good for middle or lower class people and establishments and in no way shape or form is meant as an insult to every single person living in Mt. Pleasant .. if you are not 'they' then don't be offended))

Mexican Restaurants in Mt Pleasant:
Los Arcos
La Hacienda
Senor Tequilas
Uno Mas
Rio Grande

Blockbluster closing stores:
Dish Network Closing 500 Blockbuster Stores (Update) | Reuters

Quote:
Dish Network will close 500 underperforming and unprofitable Blockbuster video stores in the coming weeks, accounting for about a third of its stores.
Looks like Mt Pleasant has Mexican restaurants and Blockbuster is closing 1/3 of their stores. Doesn't sound like a Mt Pleasant thing but a business decision based upon profits.

Since moving down here, I've found the Mexican restaurants use what I refer to as "gummy white cheese" in/on everything....not to my taste at all. Originally I am from Southern California and Don Pablos/On the Border/Casa Maria style restaurants are more what I like...

Our On the Border closed a year or so ago and most of our Blockbusters just closed, along with our Hollywood Video! Redboxes are going in all over the place.
