Hello there,
my hubby and I are doing a semi 'tour de south' since we haven't really explored the South but we hear great things about it! (and I've never left the NE, except for vacationing in Miami Beach) We are starting our quest in Charleston for 2 days, then we are off to Savannah, Atlanta, Asheville and Charlotte.
We love to walk, eat and take in the culture where ever we visit. So any suggestions on where to stay, dine and must see attractions please chime in.

much thanks,

Well if budget isn't an issue stay downtown at the Francis Marion or Charleston Place. Both put you withing walking distance of just about everything downtown. Take a carriage ride, eat at Hank's and Jestine's...

Good post OTC.

Market street is a good walk for you.

Savannah looks almost like Charleston,,,But smaller. You can have the big citys like Atl and Charlotte

We need some parameters for your trip. Budget, things you like to do etc...
Not sure what brings you to Charlotte but there isn't much here to see. Between Charleston and Asheville you would have much more to do and enjoy there than Charlotte.

Thanks for the replies re: Charleston. We'll do some research on the suggestions.

We are Charlotte largely to visit my hubby's coworker and catch a flight back home, so we should have some guidance on things to do there.

We aren't looking to spend too much, but would be willing to drop $50-100 here and there for things that interest us.

Some specific things we might look to do:

- Eat at a restaurant serving good local food.
- Stop at a brewpub
- See interesting local architecture (on foot or by tour bus/carriage)
- Visit a historic site (see previous)
- Do things that locals do
Thanks!

Not a "local" thing to do, but you should take a carriage tour -- they are loaded with info on the many historic homes/buildings. It's a nice intro before you explore the area south of Broad Street on your own -- which is the best walk there is!
