Default moving eventualy

Glad to read there is very little negativity about a big move to charleston SC.
Although I am still curious about certain jobs.I am a 30 year old single mother of 2, if we moved we would be thousands of miles away from any one we knew, but I am mostly a laborer, working with my father in construction type jobs. Although I can be handy I am not a professional anything, with no degrees or major schooling to back me up. I AM a very hard worker though. I guess my question is, are there alot of opportunities af every sort for every gender? My guess would be yes, but it doesnt hurt to ask. thank you kindly

There are sites you can check to see what types of jobs there are like Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com, Hotjobs.com just to give you an idea of what is out there. Also check to see if the main newspaper for Charleston has a website. Thye usually have a want ad section. You can also check for places to live also.

This is the best site to also get info from people who are living in Charleston.
I have decided my next move is to Charleston. And I have learned a lot from the wonderful people on this board.

You can also go to Google and put in things like cost of living, or just Charleston South Carolina and you will get a bundle of info.

Good luck on your move! I am looking forward to when I can do it. This is another adventure in my life. If I could move across country to live in Los Angeles when I was 19, this will be a breeze at 50.

Just a small addition to RiWrites post as a fellow info seeker who is looking to move to the Charleston area also.... Charleston, SC Breaking News, Weather, Business, and Sports | Charleston.Net is the Post and Courier's site and at first glance it seems to have a lot of daily happenings... but when you try to search the real estate listings or other classified listings including "Help Wanteds" they only give you the "top ten" listings (whatever that is) ....unless you subscribe to the paper. You can get an on-line version, but the on-line version is more like reading an old microfilm in the library....(you constantly need to refocus to continue reading whatever it is you are reading)....so I just subscribed to the Sunday edition which arrives here in RI on Wednesday or so.

Hi emily,
Im a Chas. native but I spend a lot of my time on the road. My partner and I are long haul truck drivers so we are kinda out of touch with the daily goings on in Chas. Still, I can tell you that a vast majority of the jobs in the Chas. area are service related, ie restaurants, hotels, etc. due to the large tourist trade. However, your construction experience could help you quite a bit if you like that kind of work. The entire Chas. area is growing rapidly and there are a LOT of construction jobs. I used to do that myself and I can say that, for the most part, no one cares about a woman on the jobsite as long as you can get the job done.

Good luck with your search..........Dee

Hi Semos, I agree that you shouldn't have trouble finding work in construction. So much is being built and faithful, diligent workers are always sought after. My son owns his own construction company and has a female employee that works on all of his jobs with no problem.

Hi~ I am also moving to the area hopefully in February..relocating from New Mexico to be closer the the ocean and my son who lives in Savannah. I am a woman with alot of Restaurant Management experience and have already been in contact with the HR at Wild Dunes Resort. I was hoping to live as close to the beach as possible but don't want to spend everything I make on rent...any suggestions on areas that would be a reasonable commute to IOP and are there any RV parks as I am even considering buying something to live in...thanks for any help
