Relocating at 59 to be near to my family and am petrified (Charleston: car rental, health insurance)

I'm 59 recently widowed relocating to Summervile to be close to my son and his family going to need a job in some type of a factory or such I am going to need a job with health insurance how is that down there My son is in the Navy so so he is not real up on the job market
Any advise????????????????

Janet, I understand how nervous you are. I am 50 and the last move I did was when I moved from Los Angeles to Lakeland, Florida and that was in the late 1980's. I am so ready for a move because I feel like I am in a rut here. Except for a friend of mine who is going with me, I won't know a soul there. I look at it this way, this is an adventure. Life is supposed to be an adventure or what is the point of living. I can't wait because in 2 years I will be moving to Charleston to start all over. It is like getting a clean slate and you can completely recreate yourself. So good luck and I am glad you found this board. They are a great bunch of people.

Just a little addendum to DJ's wonderful post, IC hotels and Verizon are call centers and have good benefits. There are also DialAmerica and Vangard, [which is national car rental]. All light labor for those of us with aging backs.
Don't overlook the school systems!! They are building schools around here like crazy.
My husband "unretired" last year and got the first job he applied for.

There is also the Alumax aluminum plant in Goose Creek, my neighbor got a job there. (actually I think its in Mt. Holly but it's close to GC) Google is also suppose to be building something here soon but I don't know what the progress is, I haven't been home in 6 weeks.
