Default Property on Johns Island

We actually live in North Georgia but I use to lived in Charleston - so we purchased acreage on Johns Island- thinking we might one day move back.. I love Johns Island and I feel they will control the Sprawl much better than Mt Pleasant. It is still reasonable in cost at least the last time I looked. And you can go to Bohicket Marina the new shopping center and the public beach access before Kiawah. Folly seems too crowded and I will not even mention IOP....but again we do not live there but like our investment!

Read most of the replies and can agree whole-heartedly with the cost of living downtown Charleston. I live in Summerville. It's 20 min from d'town and has more of a small town feel. It's growing fast and is trying to manage its growth intelligently. Had 1 daughter graduate from the local HS with a decent education. My last 2 are in a parochial school. Several to choose from. I can also give you some feedback on 2 other possibilities. My husband grew up at "the beach". In SC, that means Myrtle Beach. If you love gruelling, sweltering, bumper-to-bumper traffic, there's nothing like MB in the summertime. I still love to visit, but if I was told I had to LIVE there I'd shoot myself. Up the coast, however, is a small NC town called Shalotte. Charming, laid-back, on the coast, and near Wilmington, NC, which is a decent-sized metro area. My bro-in-law lives there. It's beautiful and the cost of housing is reasonable. In your situation, I think Shalotte would be worth a definite look-see. Lotsa luck.

How expensive is Johns Island now. How much would a small 2bedroom house with a carport or a small piece of property be?

Hey, Bloo, can you comment further on this? My family and I are living in N. Charleston for the next six months while our home is being built in Summerville about 8 miles north of where we are. We are living next to Coosaw Creek. Thanks, GRACE

Yeah, I've read that too about N Charleston but when I search real estate listings they seem to have nice homes in nice areas.

Are they cleaning up their act or going downhill?

I think Summerville is where you want to look. I moved from NY. The cost of living here is much less compared to up North. Mt. Pleasant, Charleston and areas closer to the beach are definitely more costly. Here in Summerville you can still get good deals. The more moderately priced developments have smaller lots, but you can still get something on a bigger piece of property...depends on your budget. My husband and I did a lot of research before relocating so I understand what you're going through. Summerville is convenient to everything, people are friendly, etc. I am also a realtor and would love to help you if you want. But I wrote because I've been through exactly what you are going through and I didn't think some of the other answers were giving you a proper picture of the market here. You can call me or email me if you want to get more information. No sales pitch...just want to help if I can. 843-860-3901 or mpettis36@yahoo.com Good luck with your search! Maria
