So there you go... move to any of the apartments in the third reply to this thread if you'd like to go that route. If you really want a house there are plenty in North Charleston at 800 or less. They're all going to have an oven though, so you may want to sell that before moving it across the country. Fridges... I think it's typical for a place to come with that too but double check first.

Apartment rentals (run by a management company) will have a refridgerator but not necessarily a private rental. Many people take them (as we got stuck in our last rental having to get one).

I live right behind Silvana Oaks and 20 minutes is standard without traffic. Never made it in 15 minutes without speeding. I wouldn't consider it "close" to downtown but it's not bad.

It's not 'bad' and it is a far cry from FAR from downtown.

Yeah, my commute was worse when I lived in Summerville, but I was still close to the interstate. You have good proximity to both interstates in most areas of North Charleston.
