Hey, all! There's something that I've been a little curious about... Are there any events that the city puts on for any of the holidays? We have our own traditions here, but I'm hoping to find something to get my little one excited about for when we move there.

For example, where I'm currently living, we have what's called the "Thriller Parade" for Halloween. It's put on by our Parks & Rec department. They close off all of the main streets downtown and thousands of people dress up as zombies and do the Michael Jackson's Thriller dance while the music plays loudly throughout the streets. We have a historical theatre (which is actually where my husband and I got married), and right before the zombies begin, they have a couple of actors play the parts of Michael Jackson and his girlfriend from the video. It's absolutely hilarious and SO much fun!

There are a couple things for Christmas as well that we look forward to. The Kentucky Horse Park puts on quite an event, too. We'll definitely miss that this winter.

What unique things will Charleston or the surrounding areas offer for the holidays? I'm looking forward to start some new traditions!

James Island County Park has a drive through light display from Thanksgiving to about New Year that's pretty fun. In early summer their is an arts festival- Spoleto- that takes over downtown for what seems like a month. I think its only 2 or 3 weeks. The Aquarium does a Halloween party with children's costume contest.

And there are various one day festivals at the various local parks and beaches- FollyPalooza on Folly, a giant oyster roast at Boone Hall Plantation, Cajun Festical at JICP, movies in the park at Marion Square. And the riverdogs do fireworks after friday baseball games during the summer.

The parade of boats is in December. It is boats in the harbor with holiday lights.

Here is a list of events from last year to give you an idea of what goes on around the holidays:

It's not holiday related, but the Bridge Run in the Spring is huge. And the James Island County Park lights are well worth it, I went a few years ago before I moved down and it was beautiful.

They also do a Turkey Day Run on Thanksgiving Day that gets thousands of runners.

You have MOJA in late September/early October, and there's a ton of other events I missed.
