Hi all,

I'm a traveling nurse looking to settle down in the Ladson area. I have a 12 year old son and have read that Dorchester II schools are the way to go. I've been looking at Colonial Grand at Commerce Park apartments at 3785 Ladson Road (can't find any reviews on the place) and Oakbrook Village Apts at 111 Springview Ln in Summerville (marginal reviews). Safety is HUGE priority for my son and I. Can anyone provide any insight on these locations??

Thanks in advance,

Misty

Colonial Gardens are new, since Palmetto Commerce Parkway is new, I am not sure if that area goes to DD2 or CCSD, the dividing line runs right through that area....

Oakbrook is DD2 for sure, those apartments are usually ok but I have heard of some issues around that area recently...

Just as an OBTW, the Coastal center on Miles Jameson Rd is highering RN's and LPN's....

Thanks OleTomCat... I figured the apts were pretty new since I couldn't find much info on the place. MUSC has offered me a position in there ICU but I'd love less of a commute (mapquest says its 21 miles from the apt). What is the Coastal Center? Couldn't find a website for it.

This is the one I saw the sign on:

Coastal Center
9995 Jamison Rd.
Summerville, SC 29485
(843) 873-5750

I work on Palmetto Commerce Pkwy and drive Mile/Jamison Rd from Summerville to there. The CC is about two miles from Ladson Rd.

Just FYI........Colonial Grand at Commerce Park apartments are not new. What's new is the "Colonial Grand" name. The name changed about a year or so ago when a new entity took over the ownership and management of the complex. Don't remember the former name...

Are these the apartments across from Food Lion? I know a guy at work that lived at the apartments across from Food Lion for a bit, he might still live there.

DD2 Schools are some of the best public schools around. Although MUSC is quite a ways from Summerville, it will be worth it. Since your son is in middle school, check out the areas that feed into the DD2 high schools. Ashley Ridge is the newest high school in DD2. This will be it's fifth year and many are moving into areas zoned for that school.

The ones I am speaking of are across from the Food Lion on Ladson Road. They are now Colonial Grand and were another name before they were taken over about a year ago.
