Thinking of buying a condo in the Charleston area. We will be making a visit soon & would like any info that would help us choose a community to narrow our search. One major concern is the crime rate, cant seem to find much detailed info on line. saw some lofts on Cool Blow St & Bee St that we liked.

Yes, Cool Blow is ... good looking & near to the Tattooed Moose ... and no neighborhood I'd want to call home. But you need to tell us what your "quality world" looks like. More than just safe because lots around here are safe. What else?

And be warned -- taxes on 'second homes' are high here.

Compared to most areas yes. BUT I know of folks that were a little shocked the difference between what you pay for a primary residence here and what you pay for a second home.

OK well we are a married couple in our mid 40's, we like city atmosphere, being able to walk to restaurants or local bar, however do not want to be in the middle of a lot of nightlife, culture close by, clean, basicly quiet, neighborhood, possible some outdoor space, modern conveniences, the look of cool blow is very much our style. WHat is the Tattooed Moose?

I'm trying to think if there is anything else right around there in walking distance besides The Tattooed Moose, and I can't remember anything except a strip club (maybe, maybe not...it LOOKED like a strip club but I didn't explore further) and a BBQ joint that looked run down but had quite a crowd of cars.
Tattooed Moose is yummy, bot you can only eat duck fat fries so many times a week. Wait, who am I kidding??? Yum!

Seriously though, it's not really a neighborhood that I would want to spend much time walking around in, although I know everyone has a different comfort level.

Our main concern is being in a good safe neighborhood that's we'll be able to experience the aspects of city life without too much trouble. We'd like to enjoy the culture, art, festivals, sporting event, etc that charlestton has to offer. Correct me if im wrong, but it seems that charleston has somwhat of a big city feel without the big city. We'd like to be able to enjoy the beaches and possible some golf as well. Im not stuck on cool blow, just tnought it was nice. We are very open to any suggestions and comments as why you might think a particular neighborhood is a good place to live. Our budget is $500,000. I ck'd out the tattooed moose on line, it looks neat, but definately not a deal maker, on the other hand a strip joint would definately be a deal breaker!
