Hey everyone,

I just joined the forums to get some insight on these two cities (Charleston and Savannah). Right now we are looking to re-locate the family business to cut down on shipping costs. We currently live in Jacksonville Florida. I was wondering what the Charleston area is like. We have a place in North Carolina so I know the weather... but I have never ever really stayed in SC, just driven through. I am not expecting many people to know how to compare it to Savannah but I figured maybe someone could give me insight on both.

I am single and would like to meet someone when I am up there... is it an older population or a younger? How is the night life? What about houses.... right now I have a house that is 1500 sq Feet that i bought for 132K. Im thinking I can get 155K.... can a house be bought in this price range?

Any advise or suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you

Brett

There are others who know much more than I, but I'll tell you what I can. There are more than one college in town. Every time I go into town there are plenty of young people of both sexes. For night life, you can find whatever it is you're looking for. I believe you can find a house for 155, but it will be out of the downtown area (which makes me smile, 15 mins is considered "out there") I find that no matter where you live, no place is very far from there. We're on the western most side of West Ashley and we'll put the top down and cruise right to the center of Charleston for a chicken dinner, no biggie.

Age 24 and single. Stop sounding like an old fart. Live as close to downtown as possible...unless you like MILF's...then Mount Pleasant...shop at Whole Foods.....LOL

@Brett--I think a more important question you should be asking yourself is "which town is more business friendly?" You posted that you are trying to relocate the family business to cut down on shipping costs. Do you work from home? Do customers come to you at any time (most HOA's in the Chs area frown upon home-based businesses which have customers who come to the home)?

There are aspects of Charleston and Savannah that are similar especially around the college campuses I've heard that the Chs has a higher female population. Don't know about Savannah.

Considering your age, it would probably be better for you to live downtown or possibly one of the islands closer to downtown.

I always lived in suburbs when I was single... suburbs much like Mount Pleasant that were family oriented because I felt safer there.

Anyway, there's old people (retirees), young people (college) and ages in between. No one age group sticks out to me.

I don't know anything about Savannah, but good luck!
