Just moved to Cton (Folly Beach until our house is finished) and am looking to find some fellow saltwater fly fishermen to get out on the flats with.

Anyone have suggestions on how to go about this? I haven't stopped into the Charleston Angler yet but I know that's the best fly fishing shop in the area so I do need to get in and chat it up with those guys.

Thanks ya'll.

I have been looking for a fishing buddy since moving here last month . unfortunately I have only done freshwater spincast fishing (not fly fishing) so I would be of no help and i lack a boat and the fly gear. however i will keep eye out and report back if I hear anyone looking for flyfishing buddies. good luck!

Charleston Angler is a good F/Fishing tackle shop, but if you want the best all around tackle shop you need to go by Haddrells Tackle in West Ashley. Talk to Dee, Scott, or Darrell. You wont find a more knowledgeable crew to help you!

Ive been fishing the Charleston waters for over 40 years...(and guiding for 12 of those)

Good luck with your F/Fishing......

If my Sage's & Tibor's weren't in storage up on the NC coast, I'd offer to go. LOL

Ha ha! That's exactly my favorite setup Sage Xi3 and Tibor Everglades. Caught a ton of bonefish on that setup and want to start using it on the reds but unfortunately, it's in storage with our movers until the new house is complete in March/April.

I figure that if I need to, I can either rent something here or get something from my buddy's fly shop in Chicago.

Been doing some surf fishing in Folly recently with shrimp along the groins. Only got small black drum so far, all the exact same size (about 12 inches, maybe 1.5 lbs). Hoping to hook into some of the bigger reds working the area.

I'd love to speak with someone who's had success fly fishing the surf as well.

Not big bulls, just 4-6-8-10 lbers. I don't have the equipment right now for a 20-30 lb fish.

"If" you find a red in the surf it will be a small one. All of the big ones are offshore for the winter. (Getting eat up by the great white sharks)

Your best bet this time of year is back in the shallow water flats.

"Your best bet this time of year is back in the shallow water flats".....Thus the need for a fly fishing buddy! Put me anywhere where bonefish live and I can usually find a flat that holds them but as far as fishing tidal grass flats, especially ones where the tidal surge can get 5+ feet is a different story. I need to learn when/where (without sinking to my armpits in pluff mud) I can find fish, etc.
Otherwise, I can still have fun soaking shrimp pieces on the beach catching black drum and some reds there but he fly fishing itch is gonna need to get scratched.
