I just love January around here! That is when the locals get good deals. I just saw this for the Center for the Birds of Prey:

ATTENTION LOCALS: We will be offering buy one get one free admission to residents of Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Georgetown, and Horry Counties for all tours and flight demonstrations during the month of January. We also plan to release a rehabilitated Turkey Vulture following the morning programs on Friday! Bring a friend and come see us!

We went last year and it was a nice way to spend a few hours.

We love the center! Have gone several times - the flight demos are awesome! One time in the spring, they were doing a demo with some babies they had - a baby vulture (so ugly it's cute), and a fluffy little owl. We were sitting on the first row of seats in the amphitheater, and the little owl hopped over to my husband's boot, and tried to hide underneath his leg! Amazing experience!

About 8 years ago we were doing some survey work over off Clements Ferry when we came across an abandoned baby Turkey Vulture.

I called the center and within about an hour they had someone out on our site to rescue the bird.

Not only that, but they kept me updated with pics etc on the status and progress of the TUVU right up until they released him.

Very cool experience all around
