My teenage son and I moved into a 2 bedroom apartment in North Charleston last year. It is in a decent area and they are kept up well. Last August a family moved into the 2 bedroom apartment upstairs. The family included a man, a pregnant woman, and 3 young (under 8) kids. We assumed that management knew this, and were hoping it was temporary while they looked for a house or a 3 bedroom apartment. The woman had the baby in October, making it a family of 6 living in a 2 bedroom apartment above us. The noise (running, jumping, yelling, etc) was outrageous, and when we realized it wasn't a temporary thing, I went to management to complain about the noise. They informed me that they were told by the male tenant that he was living there with his 2 sons, that was it. (They also infomred me that they only allow 4 people to a 2 bedroom unit.) I insisted that it was a family of 6, we see them every day, several times a day. We know who lives there. Management says the man is sticking to his story, and all they can do is schedule an inspection, giving the tenant 24 hours notice. They did and inspection last weekend, and judging by the complete silence on Saturday, the kids were not up there with him.
Apartment management continues to say all they can do it schedule more inspections with 24 hour notice. The noise has not stopped. I don't know how it can, you can't keep that many people quiet. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do next? As long as the man continues to lie to management about who is living there, we just have to put up with it? It is frustrating beyond belief, and I don't want to have to move in April because someone else is causing a problem.
And I thought I had it bad with noise. I don't know anything personally that could be done but it seems that this is something that a lawyer should be able to help you with. I'm so sorry, I couldn't imagine. That's why I always have to live on the top floor.
We had that problem when we rented here before buying our house. Our management did nothing when we spoke to them. Yeah, we moved when we closed on our house, but we would have moved anyway because of the problems.
can you see the stairs from your door? maybe try to get pictures of them whenever they go up or down? they can't really say anything if you're standing on your doorstep. if you get pictures of them on different days, say a week or so worth, in different clothes..... maybe they'll investigate more thoroughly. of course, i don't know how they could hide the fact that there is a baby staying up there, unless they don't have a crib? are the kids all boys? boys and girls? there's a certain age that boys and girls are supposed to have separate rooms... AND separate beds.

What is that age?
