Well, I'm another re-locator, and I was specifically looking in Mt. Pleasant because of the Wando (#16 in country BEST SCHOOLS), but the RENT is nearly $350. MORE than West Ashley, where I found a wonderful place, just a bit less luxurious, but that's fine with me. Just has to attend West Ashley HS. For $1229, 3/2, storage, screened porch, w/d, new carpeting and no other expenses, other than utilities. With pool etc...

Feedback welcome! Memorial Monday 2013.

DR. B.

If the school was really important to me, I'd keep looking in MTP. I don't know how old your kid is, but if they're nearing high school, that would be a pretty big factor. Not that West Ashley High School is bad, but maybe you could find something smaller, without a pool and screened porch, etc in MTP and make it work for the school?

I live in West Ashley and we love it here. But we don't have kids right now, so we're at least 15 years out from thinking about a high school at this point and who knows which schools will be built/zoned around here by then...

You can also buy for cheaper than that rent in West Ashley... don't know if you're looking to buy, but that's more than a mortgage payment.

West Ashley is a nice area and I'm sure you will be happy. It is very convenient to all of the Charleston area. I know several people that have gone to the high school in West Ashley and it worked out fine for them. It's what you make of it. On a whole, it's not as good as some other schools, but it's still an ok school and has a lot to offer in the way of AP classes and sports.

Is she reliable? Capable of doing a little simple cleaning/maintenance? Some places have on-site apartments for managers, but it isn't in retail . . . that's one way to get around the cost of rent issue. You can PM me if you want some info.

I can't comment on anything other than Mt Pleasant because we've only been here a couple years and in Mt P the whole time. But, I will tell you that we chose living in a condo with 3 kids over a house in any other city...safety, great schools, and absolutely beautiful. Craigslist search Baytree Court. Their 3 bedrooms are 1275 but they may have 2 bedrooms available for less. I can vouch that is a safe, relaxed neighborhood and it's close to the Ravenel (getting downtown is easy) and 10 mins or so to Sullivan's Island.

always use the PUBLIC LIBRARY location as your search area central point. free entertainment is a great incentive to live near.

When you're house poor like us, the library becomes your friend quickly.

Book + pool = Happy summer

Ok so back on subject, I'm looking at the same areas, budget is $315k, although would like to stay in that $275k range. Here are our main reasons for moving:

1. Closer to the beach, yes, I do go to the beach 3 to 4 times a week, and would probably go daily if I didn't have a 35 min ride there as of now.

2. Area with restaurants, amenities close by.

3. Decent school system, we may or may not have children, but regardless it helps resale in the long-term future.

4. Newer construction (newer than 2000).

5. At least 1600 sf with some sort of 2nd living room if possible (FROG, etc.)

Here's the neighborhoods we are interested in, any feedback would be greatly appreciated:

1. Ocean Neighbors
2. Seaside Plantation
3. Wexford Sound
4. The Bend at River Road (John's Island)
5. Riverland Park (Proposed new construction)
6. Bayview Farms (although there is nothing for sale there right now)
7. Belle Hall/anywhere around Long Point Rd.

We have a Realtor who is assisting, but I'd like more feedback, and well, I just like to research things.
