Default Social services in Charleston?

I am a social worker, and my wife and I are considering moving to SC from AL. We are looking into Myrtle Beach or Conway, possibly one of the surrounding areas. However, we have also heard really good things about the Charleston area and I am hoping someone might be able to tell me what type of social service agencies are in the area (youth homes, shelters, drug clinics, hospitals, etc.). Also, can anyone make an educated comparison as to the similarities and differences between the housing and beaches, as well as cost of living? Thanks.
