Hi, I am a hospice nurse, and will moving to the area the first part of June. I think Hospice of South Carolina office is in North Charleston, but I will also be working in Charleston, Berkley, and Dorchester counties. I would like to find the cheapest rental possible while keeping in mind I need safe also since i will be living alone.
Any suggestions where to look that would be fairly close to these counties in a safe area? I've read to stay away from North Charleston area near the office, but was wondering if there was any small communities nearly in the other counties that would work?
thanks!
Julianna
What is your budget for houseing, aka what do you call cheap?
There are some really nice apartments along I-26 in Summerville that will run you in the mid $700~$1000/mnth. Then there are some that are not as nice still close to the interstate but run closer to the $600.00 price range....
My budget would hopefully be lower than 800 a month, but not sure that's doable. i'm moving from Lexington KY where typical apartments in the nice areas run 700-900. You can find decent houses or townhomes for rent from 650 on up. I've never paid over 800's before, but after researching here, seems I will need to pay that or even more to live in a safer area in the Charleston area?
My wife turned down a decent position similar to yours because they wanted to stick her with the entire tri-county area. This could literally put her 2+ hours between patients. If they had offered specific areas (a single county), it would have been much better...and those positions are available, but the open job at the time was for the entire tri-county. That was a deal breaker for us.
I'd probably stick in the Summerville/Ladson area for economical accommodations and to be "somewhat" centrally located. Just pray you don't have many "customers" in Ravenel, Edisto, or McClellanville.
I think it will be a tri county position, but I'm ok with that. Some of the patients with my current job live way out in the country here in KY, so I am used to small, winding country roads, and long distances between patients.
I have been trying to look at local maps to get a sense of where to look, but may have to wait till I actually start to make a decision where to live. I keep hearing that Summerville is a pretty good location, so definitely will check it out when I get there!
thanks! Julianna
