I would rather folks freak out and nothing happens, then folks not be ready and get slammed. It's all part of our culture now. We do everything over the top. We are so media driven....we are on our phones with updates, on our laptops, on TV....constantly looking for the latest. The media feeds that to us and we slop it up.

This is true... My amazement is that the majority of our society is unable to really sift through the nonsense. Alot of people cannot grasp the concept that the main objective of these news organizations is to get ratings.. I just wish people would do a little research before accepting every report as gospel...
I appreciate the realistic comments on here in regards to the storms. All I've ever gotten was a "be-prepared-and-panic" message from the internet and everywhere else.
I do wonder if I should get contents only-flood insurance for my rental here. It's in zone X on Rifle Range just behind the Ben Sawyer Bi-Lo. Think it's worth the $300/year?
Did you live right on the River or Harbor?
Don't waste money on rental insurance for flooding if you are not. You don't need it unless you live downtown Charleston where it really floods!

You are friggin' kidding, right?
Zone X is outside of the 100 year floodplain. If that is right, I'm not sure I'd worry too much about it.
I would say to always insure your rental no matter what.
I agree we did in South Florida
it was the same way there and the news and media let me tell you would Freak me out and Id be calling my friends who have been through one and well they always put me at ease...that is why living in Charleston would not phase me, heck anywhere on the Water as I so miss it

I don't even have a choice in regards to renters insurance. My apartment complex makes everyone sign up for renters insurance before they can get the keys to their place. Didn't know property management places can make people do this...
